Directions to the U.S. National Arboretum

The Washington Youth Garden is most easily accessible through the R Street entrance to the National Arboretum. Within the Arboretum, the WYG is located near the corner of Ellipse Road and Crabtree Road. For a map, click here.

FROM METRO

Metro routes to the National Arboretum vary depending on where you are coming from and when you are coming.  We suggest you consult www.wmata.com, especially on the weekend.

Orange/Blue line: Take the train to Stadium/Armory.  Take the B2 bus towards Mt. Rainier.  Get off at the bus stop on the corner of Bladensburg Road and R Street NE.  Walk down R Street to entrance of the Arboretum and proceed to the Visitor’s Center.  If you are visiting the Youth Garden, the receptionist can give you directions.  We are located across from Fern Valley on Crabtree Road.   

FROM NORTHWEST WASHINGTON

Follow New York Avenue east to the intersection at Bladensburg Road.  Turn right onto Bladensburg Road, follow several blocks to R Street, turn left onto R Street, which becomes the entrance to the Arboretum.  See above for directions to the Youth Garden.
Note: if you pass Mt. Olivet Cemetery on your right you have gone too far!

FROM THE MARYLAND SUBURBS

Take I-95 east to exit 22 south.  Follow the Baltimore Washington Parkway South approximately 7 miles to the junction of Route 295 and Route 50.  Bear right onto Route 50 and move into the extreme left lane.  You will approach the intersection of Bladensburg Road & New York Avenue, at which the left lanes allows a left turn onto Bladensburg. Turn left and proceed for several blocks to R Street.  Turn left onto R Street.  R Street becomes the entrance to the Arboretum.  
Note: if you pass Mt. Olivet Cemetery on your right you have gone too far!

FROM VIRGINIA I 395

Follow I 395 North over the 14th Street Bridge, into the tunnel under the Capitol, until it ends at the intersection at New York Avenue.  Turn right (east) onto the New York Avenue and proceed to the intersection at Bladensburg Road. Turn right onto Bladensburg Road, follow to R Street, turn left onto R Street.  R Street becomes the entrance to the Arboretum.    Note: if you pass Mt. Olivet Cemetery on your right you have gone too far!

You may also take 395 to the 6th Street, SE exit.  Take 6th St to Maryland Avenue.  Turn Right onto Maryland Avenue and then left on Bladensburg Road.  Make a right onto R Street after you go over the hill.

FROM VIRGINIA I 66

Cross the Roosevelt Bridge and follow Constitution past the Capitol.  Bear left onto Maryland Avenue.  Follow Maryland to Bladensburg Road, NE  Turn left onto Bladensburg and follow until R Street. Turn right onto R St.  R Street becomes the entrance to the Arboretum.
