Growing Food... Growing Together

photo-gfgt This intensive, fifteen-week, family gardening and cooking program takes place on Saturday mornings in the WYG, May through August. The program is designed to bring 25 to 30 local families together to grow and prepare their own organic foods. By reconnecting people with their food sources, the WYG offers one plausible solution to epidemic obesity rates and physical inactivity.

Each week, families come together to tend their garden plots, participate in organic garden maintenance workshops, and learn delicious new ways of cooking the very foods they are growing in their gardens. The families create a living community all their own as they bond over the challenges presented by growing one’s own food and share in the joys of the harvest. Throughout the program, participants are invited to tour local farms, contribute to our local farmer’s market booth, and celebrate the harvest with various creative elements including cooking, nutrition, literacy, and art.

Our 2009 program begins May 2nd and runs until August 22nd. For program requirements, please contact Kaifa Anderson-Hall at kanderson-hall@washingtonyouthgarden.org. Download a flyer here for more information.
