PollinatorLIVE webcast at the Washington Youth Garden

On September 29, 2010, join us for PollinatorLIVE: Honey Bees, Native Bees, Gardening, and More, which will be webcast live from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. ET from the Washington Youth Garden at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C.   We'll take a tour of the garden, learn about native and honey bees, go on a hunt for lesser known pollinators, and join a chef in Pollinator Kitchen and Café.

WYG Installs New School Gardens

After finishing up the eight week classroom component to our Garden Science program, we turned our attention to installing a garden at each participating school. Our Garden Science program is only taught in the third and fourth grade classes. However, a school garden allows the entire school community to learn from and enjoy gardening. We wank to thank the University of the District of Columbia's Master Gardeners , who aided us in the design, construction, and planting of the gardens.

Science Program Reaching Out (SPROUT) is the WYG's one-time outreach program that provides an opportunity for children and educators from across the Washington metro region to join us for an interactive and educational experience in the Youth Garden. We are available to host groups on weekdays throughout the fall months. Please see our SPROUT program page for more information on curriculum topics, as well as for a reservation form.

Seed to Supper Campers Donate Harvest to DC Central Kitchen

With all the hard work from our program participants, volunteers, and staff (and the bees, red wigglers, and good soil critters), our garden has been incredibly productive this season. So much so that our Seed to Supper campers harvested over 100 pounds of vegetables and donated it to DC Central Kitchen.
