Washington Youth Garden nurtures curious minds and healthy bodies by connecting youth to food, the land, and each other. We strive to spark a lifelong love of nature that grows beyond the classroom and instills passion in science, personal and community health, and nutrition. Washington Youth Garden is a program of the Friends of the National Arboretum with support from the U.S. National Arboretum, and primarily serves under-served, low-income schools and families northeast of the Capitol, although we welcome anyone and everyone to our Demonstration Garden who wishes to learn.
Our Primary Goals are:
Ignite in youth a curiosity about science and food through connecting with the natural world;
Enable schools to use the garden to teach about science and health; and
Support youth in developing their voice and skills to be advocates for environmental stewardship and community health.
