about Washington youth garden

IMG_0176.JPG

The Washington Youth Garden - Washington Youth Garden is a program of the Friends of the National Arboretum with support from the U.S. National Arboretum, and primarily serves under-served, low-income schools and families northeast of the Capitol, although we welcome anyone and everyone to our Demonstration Garden who wishes to learn.

Washington Youth Garden nurtures curious minds and healthy bodies by connecting youth to food, the land, and each other. We strive to spark a lifelong love of nature that grows beyond the classroom and instills passion in science, personal and community health, and nutrition.

Friends of the National Arboretum, a membership-based 501(c)(3), is the National Arboretum's primary private partner in its mission of research, education and public outreach. Over the past 25 years, FONA has made possible the installation of the historic Capitol Columns, restoration of Springhouse Run, the Washington Youth Garden, the creation of the Flowering Tree Walk and numerous other projects. Its signature membership group, the David Fairchild Society, celebrates the work of David Fairchild while providing a community of camaraderie for its supporters: like-minded friends who are passionate about the Arboretum and FONA.
